Hi Parents and Carers,
Welcome to C3!
End of Term 1
Wow! The end of the term is here. It has gone so quickly, but it has also been great getting to know all the families of C3. The last month has been busy. With lots of different opportunities provided for all students. All students have participated well and have displayed amazing leadership. I would like to thank all the students for their efforts this term. Bring on term 2.
I would also like to thank Mandy for giving up her Wednesday afternoons to support our students with their amazing art. The focus has been on impressionism and how to paint and create a range of art works using their feelings and thoughts rather than form. Her amazing knowledge and skill is appreciated by myself and the students. Thank you very much. Their final portraits should be completed early next term.
Also, it has been great to see the students commit to the reading log. Reading is an important skill that should be completed most nights. It is also useful for the students to reflect on what they have read and write a short passage about it. Reading can be books, newspapers, comics, Internet pages and the list goes on.
If I don’t see you before the holidays have a fun and safe time and look forward to seeing you next term.
We have started goal setting in the classroom.
We are focusing on the SMART goal process. I have found this interesting to begin with as the students have required a lot of support to create a specific goal. For example, some of them said improve their maths, so I said what part of maths? We then drilled down to find something they can spend the next 2 weeks on improving. They have also really noticed the time and effort that need to put in if they want to improve anything. This can be daunting, so I will continue to support them to set achievable goals. The class also had some great tips from students who had already developed good understanding of different learning areas and what they did to achieve this success.
First Few Weeks of Term 1
We are now up and running with all cross-setting and support programs across the classroom and the school. I have had nothing but great feedback from the teachers running these programs about the commitment and effort that the children are putting in.
Thank you to those who have responded to my request to support the students with before school reading. This is for all students and will be run from 8:30-8:45. Students will just read and parents and carers are there to listen and offer guidance where necessary.
Please encourage your children to make sure they all have their notes and diaries with them. The diaries have also made communication between home and school a lot smoother.
We have already had an excursion to the Cockburn wetlands, with a focus on turtles and the hatchery. This was kindly paid for by the Cockburn City Council.
Italian lessons have also started for 2018. This is a fabulous opportunity for the students to be immersed in a different cultural experience and learn a new language. The teacher is Mrs Harrison and it will be on Tuesday mornings.
