2018 Class B4

Buddy Class

On Monday August 6 we had our first Buddy Class session with the Pre-primary children from A2. All the children were very excited about getting together to meet each other and do an art activity.

Jo and I hope to create a bond os support and friendship between our students that encourages B4 to adopt a mentoring role with the younger children.

We look forward to meeting up on Monday afternoons from 2:30 to 2:55pm.

Maria

B4 Office Display

Last term I had the privilege of spending all 9 weeks of term 2 in B4 with Ms Clapsis and Ms Sedgwick for my prac placement.

We did a lot of work in term 2, the students were all very proud of what they had learnt and the work they had completed so they have selected some pieces to display in the office.

The B4 classroom and Phoenix PS have provided me with opportunities and challenges that I will always remember throughout the rest of my studies at Notre Dame and eventual teaching career.

Thank you for having me last term, I look forward to visiting and seeing some of you again soon!

Sincerely, Mr Timmerman (Mr T)

Digital Data DisplayDuring one of our lab sessions the children were taught how to display their data digitally. Your child's work is displayed in our classroom and you are most welcome to come and have a look before or after school.

Week 7 - Term 2 Update!

B4 students have been very busy this term and everyone has been working hard and achieving their goals.

Year 3’s are currently learning about fractions and reading simple grids in maths. They are working on putting fractions onto number lines! They did a fantastic job at this activity.

Year 4’s are working on fractions and decimals and using simple scales and legends when working with maps and grids.

The whole class have been working on collecting data and presenting them in graph forms. They have used bar graphs which they have drawn themselves and they have also used PowerPoint to create a pie graph or line graph.

Talk 4 Writing!

In class we have started our Talk4Writing program. This term we have been looking at “George’s Marvellous Medicine” with a focus on figurative language, poem writing and using our ‘magpie words’ in all areas of writing. Students have been exploring adjectives used to describe characters in the book and also the language used by Roald Dahl in all of the books he writes. For further information please visit http://www.talk4writing.co.uk/about/

Class Shout Outs

Following our whole school well being program and PATHS, we have started a student’s shout out board in B4. This board if for students to write compliments to their fellow peers when they see them doing the right thing or when they see someone doing something nice for another student.

We also use Smiling Minds in our classroom. This is a mindfulness program used within the school which focuses on teaching students to be present within the moment and focussing on one thing at a time. It helps them to self-regulate and ‘meditate’ in the classroom. This app is free to download and can be accessed out of the classroom if you want to use this with your child.

Commonwealth Games

B4 students had a fantastic morning learning about the Commonwealth Games and did a fantastic job creating and designing their own team uniforms and mascots. Well done B4! It was so great to see you all working cooperatively and collaboratively!

Welcome to 2018!

Welcome to B4 - our year 3/4 class for 2018. The students had a great start to the year and will continue to learn, grow and succeed as the year progresses.

Homework for B4 students will be learning their times tables and reading their Lexile book on a regular basis.   The online comprehension quiz for the Lexile reader will need to be done at school. We will also set  online tasks that  can be done at home.  The expectation is that your child will complete at least a few tasks per week as well as read regularly.   If you do not want your child to do homework please notify us in writing.

If your child cannot access the internet at home - please let us know so that your child can have priority to use the computers in our class from 8:30 - 8:45.

If you have any queries please feel free to contact us.  We look forward to meeting you all.

Thanks,  Maria Clapsis (Mon, Tues and Wed) and Rebecca Sedgwick (Thurs and Fri)
