We are very excited to announce that we have two Story Dog teams joining our Phoenix community again for 2019. This is our third year that Phoenix has been part of the National Story Dogs program that reaches over 165 schools nationally.
Phoenix Primary School is excited to offer the reading support program, Story Dogs, again in 2019. The program has commenced this term and will provide selected students with the opportunity to develop their fluency, comprehension and communication skills by reading to a trained companion dog and its handler.
The dogs and handlers involved in the program are members of our school community who have completed a thorough approval and training process and have been certified by Story Dogs. The program takes place on school grounds within school hours and allows the students involved to spend 20 minutes per week reading with the volunteers.
Our 2 dogs this year are Charles and Mooman, and they will be reading with some of our students with their handlers looking on.
If you happen to see the dogs around the school feel free to say hi and give them a little pat.
